Srinagar, Aug 27: The government on Thursday ordered a major reshuffle in the Police Department, transferring and posting 14 senior IPS and JKPS officers, with Sujit Kumar appointed as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, while Tejinder Singh will take charge as IGP Jammu.
As per an official order by the Home Department under Government Order No 438-Home of 2026 dated August 27, Sujit Kumar IPS, who was serving as IGP Security, J&K, has been transferred and posted as IGP Kashmir Zone against an available vacancy.
His appointment marks a key change in the leadership of the Kashmir Police at a time when security and policing challenges continue to evolve across the Valley.
At the same time, Tejinder Singh, IPS, has been posted as the new IGP Jammu Zone, replacing Bhim Sen Tuti, who has been shifted as IGP Headquarters, J&K.
The reshuffle was ordered by the Home Department through Government Order No. 438-Home of 2026, dated August 27, in the interests of administration.
As part of the changes, M.K. Sinha, IPS (1996), ADG Headquarters, has been transferred and posted as ADG CID J&K, replacing Nitish Kumar. Nitish Kumar, IPS (1999), has been posted as ADG Armed Police J&K against an available vacancy.
Uttam Chand, IPS (2002), IGP Police Operations & Services at Police Headquarters, has been posted as IGP Railways, J&K. He will continue to hold the additional charge of IGP Police Operations & Services until further orders.
Vivek Gupta, IPS (2007), who was serving as IGP Railways, has been posted as IGP Security, J&K, replacing Sujit Kumar.Shakti Kumar Pathak, IPS (2009), has been designated as Director, Anti-Corruption Bureau.
At the district level, Sahil Sarangal, IPS (2017), SSP Handwara, has been transferred and posted as SSP Pulwama. Tahir Saleem Khan, JKPS (2001), SO to IGP Kashmir Zone, has been posted as SSP Handwara.
Sunny Gupta, IPS (2020), Addl. SP Anantnag, has been elevated to the post of SSP Kishtwar, replacing Naresh Singh, who has been posted as SSP Rajouri.
Mubassir Latifi Ameer, IPS (2011), DIG Personnel, PHQ, has been transferred as DIG IR Kashmir and will relinquish his additional charge of DIG Training, PHQ.
Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, JKPS (2004), SSP SCW Kashmir, has been posted as SO to IGP Kashmir Zone, replacing Tahir Saleem Khan.
The wide-ranging reshuffle brings changes to the leadership of the Kashmir and Jammu Zones, besides key appointments in CID, Security, Armed Police, Railways, Anti-Corruption Bureau and several district police formations.
The order was issued by the Home Department by order of the Lieutenant Governor and signed by Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti, IAS.
