Mysuru: Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association activists held a protest outside the office of deputy commissioner in Mysuru on Tuesday, demanding the district administration give directions to Bannari Amman Sugar Mills of Nanjangud taluk to release pending arrears of sugarcane growers.A heated argument ensued between farmers and police when the former attempted to enter the office of deputy commissioner through the main gate in Siddhartha Nagar. Police prevented them from picketing the office. The DC promised to ensure the release of pending arrears, including additional incentives of Rs 100 per tonne, at the meeting held with farm leaders and representatives of sugar mills. Neither the management of sugar mills nor the district administration ensured the release of pending Rs 100 incentives to farmers, he charged. The protesters also urged the district administration to relax CIBIL score rules for the distribution of loans to farmers, besides fulfilling other demands of them. The protesters cautioned that they will not withdraw the protest until demands are met, continuing their indefinite stir outside the office of deputy commissioner.
