HYDERABAD: A 40-year-old information technology professional with an IT major in Raidurgam died by suicide by jumping from the terrace of a five-storied building near his office on Tuesday night. Though the exact reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained, police suspect that loss of Rs 2 lakh in a cyber fraud could be the trigger for the extreme step.According to Raidurgam police, the deceased was identified as Thiruveedi V Avinash, a resident of Kukatpally. Avinash worked in Bengaluru for several years. Two months ago, he along with his wife and their two children shifted to Hyderabad after Avinash joined the IT major in Raidurgam. At 6pm on July 14, Avinash messaged his wife saying that he was about to leave the office. However, as he did not reach home, family members tried to call him. “One of his phones was switched off and the calls to the second phone remained unanswered. When the family contacted Avinash’s manager, he confirmed that Avinash had already left the office,” Raidurgam inspector Ch Venkanna said.At 8.30pm, Avinash’s brotherin-law G Arun Kumar went to the office building. He noticed a crowd gathered at a spot and was informed that a person had died by suicide. “I immediately went to the spot and found that the deceased was my brother-in-law,” Arun stated in his complaint.Police shifted the body for a post-mortem examination and registered a case under Section 194 (suspicious death) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) on Wednesday.During the investigation, police obtained CCTV footage from the building, which clearly showed Avinash jumping over the glass parapet of the fifth-floor terrace cafeteria and dying by suicide. Police also found out that Avinash lost about Rs 2 lakh in a cyber fraud recently and he even lodged a complaint on NCRP. However, before approaching the local police with a written complaint, Avinash resorted to the extreme step. Raidurgam police, who suspect that the cybercrime could be a reason behind the extreme step, are trying to find out the details of the complaint.
