New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi once again said that the students, who participated in the protest against the paper leak, were still being harassed. After meeting some students, who said they had faced a police lathi-charge, with one claiming to have been hit by a pellet, Gandhi told journalists: “I met the protesting youth from different states. I want to thank these young people, who fought to protect the education system and Constitution. They did not resort to violence against anyone, yet they are being threatened and harassed. The youth have done nothing wrong and they do not need to apologise to anyone.”
Holding home minister Amit Shah “responsible for the violence” against students and slamming him for not making any statement on the issue in Parliament, Gandhi reiterated his hypothesis: “There are two possibilities. Either he (Shah) did not know that the violence was being carried out, which means he is incompetent, or he ordered the violence against the students, which makes him culpable. Either way, he is responsible.”
