12-year-old seminary student died and three others sustained burn injuries after a massive fire broke out at a Darul Uloom in the Old Mattan Adda area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district during the intervening night of May 11 and 12, officials said.
Officials from the Fire and Emergency Services said they received a dis-tress call at around 12:17 am following reports of a blaze inside the seminary-cum-mosque building identified as Faizan Baba Hyder Reshi Darul Uloom Markazi.
“A three-storeyed structure was engulfed in flames when firefighting teams reached the spot. Around 33 students were present inside the building at the time of the incident,” an official told Rising Kashmir.
He said rescue teams, aided by locals, managed to evacuate 32 students safely, while one student succumbed to severe burn injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Bilal Ahmad, 12, son of Mohammad Akbar Kumar of Warwan, officials said.
Dr. Bilal Mashraf Banday, Medical Superintendent of Government Med-ical College (GMC) Anantnag said that they received three injured students.
They were identified as Sabit Fayaz, 16, son of Fayaz Ahmad of Sangaldan; Sahil Ahmad, 17, son of Manas Ahmad of San-galdan; and Irfan Ahmad, 14, son of Gulzar Ahmad Doie of Pahalgam.
He added that Sahil Ahmad was later referred to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for advanced treatment, while the condition of the other two injured students was stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, and Senior Superintendent of Police Amod Ashok Nagpure visited Government Medical College Anantnag and met the victims who sustained burn injuries in the fire incident at a seminary school in the town.
