Lucknow: The post-mortem examination of the 19-year-old BA first-year student of Lucknow University, who was found dead in his hostel room, has confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to ante-mortem hanging, police said on Monday.Viscera has been preserved to rule out possibility of poisoning or intoxication, while the student’s mobile phone will also undergo forensic examination if required. ‘Ante-mortem hanging” indicates that the act of hanging occurred while the individual was alive, leading to death due to lack of oxygen. In such cases, typical findings in the post-mortem include a ligature mark on the neck consistent with hanging, absence of signs of struggle and internal indicators such as congestion and compression of neck structures.
