Bicholim: Stray cattle on the Bicholim–Sanquelim road are worrying residents as accidents involving heavy vehicles, especially at night, continue to kill animals regularly. Blaming speeding trucks and lorries for most of the incidents, locals said one or more cattle are found dead on the stretch every week or fortnight.Sanjay Kharbe, a local, said the growing number of nighttime crashes is alarming and needs immediate intervention. Bordem resident Raam Shirgaonkar said the road falls under the Karapur-Sarvan panchayat and urged the body to raise the issue in the gram sabha and implement steps to keep cattle off the road.Shirgaonkar also pointed to negligence by cattle owners as a key factor and suggested penalties for owners who allow animals to roam freely. Citing the latest case, he said a cow was crushed under a heavy truck on Sunday, highlighting the lack of preventive measures and accountability.Residents have appealed for urgent action to stop stray cattle from wandering onto the road and warned they will protest if the issue remains unresolved.
