MADHUBANI: Bihar labour resources minister Arun Shankar Prasad‘s vehicle was allegedly pelted with stones in Madhubani district while he was visiting the residence of an accident victim, police said on Monday.The vehicle’s windshield was damaged in the stone-pelting incident, though the minister escaped unhurt as he was standing at the gate of the victim’s house at the time.According to a police statement, the incident occurred on Sunday evening when the minister, who is also the local MLA, visited Tahar village under the Khajauli police station limits to offer condolences to the family of a man who was killed in a road accident on Friday night.“During the visit, some anti-social elements provoked a group of women present at the spot and positioned them in front of the minister’s vehicle. The group allegedly began raising demands and damaged the vehicle’s windshield by throwing stones. Police personnel deployed at the scene ensured the minister’s safety and escorted his vehicle away from the area,” the statement said.Senior police officials, including the DIG of the Mithila Range and the Madhubani superintendent of police, rushed to the spot following the incident. The officers assessed the situation and also met the minister.According to police, all those allegedly involved in the stone-pelting have been identified, and a case has been registered at the concerned police station.A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to apprehend the accused, and raids are being conducted to secure their arrest, police said.(With agency inputs)
