Sterlite Technologies Ltd (STL) on Friday said a crucial patent cited in an overseas infringement dispute by Japan’s Fujikura group has been revoked in its entirety, bringing an end to the company’s UK patent litigation linked to its optical fibre cable business.

“Fujikura’s patent EP3796060, involved in patent infringement litigation in the UK as disclosed in our letter dated December 5, 2025, has been revoked in its entirety by the Technical Board of Appeal,” Sterlite Technologies said in its exchange filing.

In a regulatory filing, STL said the Technical Board of Appeal of the European Patent Office (EPO) has revoked Fujikura’s patent EP3796060, a decision that is non-appealable. The patent had formed the basis of infringement proceedings initiated against STL in the UK in relation to its Celesta cable family.

“This effectively brings a formal end to the UK patent litigation concerning the company’s Celesta cable family,” STL said.

The litigation involved Fujikura Ltd and Fujikura Europe Ltd as opposing parties. Following the favourable ruling, Sterlite Technologies said it is actively pursuing the recovery of legal defence costs incurred in the matter from Fujikura.

The company added that there is no settlement involved and no financial claim outstanding against STL in relation to the proceedings.

Sterlite Technologies had earlier disclosed that the Court has issued a split judgement, holding that STL’s ultra–high-fibre-count cable does not infringe, while determining that the low–fibre-count cables are infringing. STL remains fully committed to protecting and developing its technologies and to delivering cutting-edge solutions to customers globally.

The matter stems from Fujikura Ltd and Fujikura Europe Limited (Fujikura) issuing UK proceedings against STL on 10 Nov 2023, alleging infringement of patent EP 3 796 060 B1 by STL’s ribbed cables supplied to the United Kingdom. Fujikura was seeking an injunction to restrain all further acts of infringement.
