Kolkata: Statues of two footballers in action — one wearing the jersey of Mohun Bagan Super Giant and another one wearing the jersey of East Bengal FC — are likely to replace the recently demolished Football-Man installation outside Salt Lake stadium, sports and youth affairs minister Nisith Pramanik said on Tuesday. The minister said initially it was thought that a statue of legendary Indian footballer Gostho Behari Pal would be set up there, but after further talks, it was initially decided that not one, but statues of two footballers would be built there. “The height of the statues is yet to be decided. But as per our preliminary plan, the two will don jerseys of two legendary football clubs who have faced off against each other multiple times at this stadium,” he said.
