Kolkata: State universities must hold their pending convocations within two months, higher education minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay said on Monday.Following a direction from governor-chancellor R N Ravi, the higher education department issued an order to state universities, Chattopadhyay said after attending West Bengal State University’s convocation in Barasat. At the fifth convocation, held after over six-and-a-half years, more than 300 received their degrees and certificates. Chattopadhyay said, “This is good for students who received their certificates but not so for an administration that held a convocation after six years. Our govt is trying to regularise all the irregularities in the higher education system. The chancellor has given permission, and the department has told all state universities with backlogs to complete them within two months.”
