Mysuru: The state govt will complete the recruitment of 16,000 teachers by the end of this year to address the shortage of teachers in govt schools, school education and literacy minister Madhu Bangarappa said Wednesday.Speaking to reporters, Bangarappa said: “Addressing the shortage of teachers is our responsibility. Previous govts had aggravated the problem, but I have been addressing the shortage in phases during my tenure. The recruitment process for another 16,000 teachers has begun, and we will complete it by the end of this year,” he said. The state govt is also undertaking reforms in the education sector through Karnataka Public Schools (KPS), with steps being taken to establish 1,250 KPS institutions in the first phase.Former chief minister Siddaramaiah had taken a keen interest in establishing 1,250 KPS schools, while chief minister DK Shivakumar had directed officials to work towards establishing another 1,000 schools, Bangarappa said. This would take the total number of KPS institutions in the state to around 2,500.KPS schools would offer quality education and facilities to compete with private schools, with students able to study from pre-primary to pre-university courses on a single campus. The govt would also provide free school bus facilities to improve access to education, he said.
