Bhubaneswar: To align its administrative structure with the evolving school education system, the state govt on Tuesday rechristened the Regional Directorates of Education (RDEs) as Regional Directorates of School Education (RDSEs). A notification issued by the school and mass education department said the three regional offices in Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur and Brahmapur will henceforth be known as the Regional Directorates of School Education. The posts of Regional Director of Education have also been redesignated as Regional Director of School Education with immediate effect.For teachers, district education officials and the public, however, little will change beyond the name. The govt clarified that the renaming will not affect the offices’ powers, jurisdiction or day-to-day responsibilities. The regional directorates will continue to supervise schools, monitor the implementation of govt programmes, conduct inspections and coordinate with district education authorities in their respective jurisdictions. “The re-naming shall not affect the existing powers, duties, responsibilities, jurisdiction, functions, service conditions, seniority, pay and allowances,” the notification said.The new nomenclature will now be used in all official records, notifications, service books, correspondence and other govt documents. Likewise, references to the “Regional Directorate of Education” in existing laws, rules and circulars will automatically be construed as references to the “Regional Directorate of School Education.”Officials said the exercise is intended to bring greater clarity and uniformity to the department’s institutional identity while reflecting its exclusive focus on school education.
