Ranchi: State police on Tuesday received 636 SUVs and 849 motorcycles with the aim to ensure quick response and rescue operations in emergency situations. CM Hemant Soren flagged off the vehicles from the assembly in the presence of speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto, ministers, MLAs and senior police officers.The CM also laid the foundation stone for the construction of integrated police stations, each comprising anti-human trafficking units, cyber, scheduled tribe/scheduled caste and women police stations on a single premises.The police stations would be set up in Dumka, East Singhbhum, Gumla, Ranchi, Bokaro, Chatra, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Garwah, Giridih, Hazaribag and Palamu.Hemant said, “The new vehicles would improve the police surveillance system. Criminals would think twice before committing crime under the circumstances. It is necessary that police use new technology to curb them.”He added that public alertness and cooperation were also important for reducing crimes. He described Jharkhand police as a committed force.Speaker said that the CM’s step to provide new vehicles would check rise in crimes. DGP Tadasha Mishra stated that the addition of new vehicles would enable an effective police presence across the state.The maximum number of SUVs and bikes were allocated to Ranchi, 88 and 73, respectively. The number of SUVs and bikes allocated to East Singhbhum were 51 and 89, to West Singhbhum were 40 and 47, and to Dhanbad were 40 and 45, respectively.Police said that each vehicle would have wireless sets and a system that would link them directly to the command and control centre and enable them to exchange information. The vehicles would be linked to a GPS tracking system to ascertain their real-time location so that the control centre could send messages to the nearest one in case of an incident. The system would enable police to reach the victims within the golden hour.Police said the emergency response number (112) would also be made more effective.In the current financial year, 959 bikes, 5 earth-movers, 4 water tankers, 3 prison vans and 5 riot intervention vehicles were give to the police in districts. In addition, four bullet-proof vehicles, ‘Rakshak’, and 12 SUVs would be allocated to the districts.Nine scientist assistants selected for the state forensic laboratory were also provided appointment letters on the occasion.
