Bengal Congress on Tuesday flagged probable delays in the SIR process and urged the fixing of a deadline for its completion. “Unless a deadline is set by the Supreme Court for SIR completion, the process of publishing supplementary lists on a continuous basis may turn out to be a prolonged exercise, and that could even disrupt the assembly election schedule,” said Prasenjit Bose, chairperson of the party’s SIR panel. The party said that appellate remedies for wrongly excluded electors might get constrained due to the absence of a clearly synchronised deadline linking final roll publication, supplementary lists, and election notification.
