Chennai: DMK president M K Stalin on Saturday criticised chief minister C Joseph Vijay for remaining silent on alleged custodial deaths in Tamil Nadu and asked when he would “open his mouth” on the issue.In a post on X, Stalin accused the TVK govt of refusing to accept accountability or offer an apology. “Doesn’t the chief minister like the two words – accountability and apology?” he asked. Stalin recalled that, ahead of the 2026 assembly election, Vijay had questioned whether saying sorry was enough in cases of custodial death. He alleged that Vijay, after becoming chief minister, was now unwilling even to apologise and asked where he was “hiding”.

The DMK chief also accused the state govt of failing to show compassion by not consoling the families of those who had died in custody.His remarks came following the death of Arunachalam from Tuticorin, whose family alleged that he had been subjected to custodial torture. Police denied it.
