Namakkal: Chief minister M K Stalin on Friday inaugurated a multipurpose hall constructed in memory of former chief minister of Madras Presidency Dr P Subbarayan at a cost of Rs3.06 crore in Navani Thotakkurpatty village through video conferencing from Chennai. The hall features a bust of Subbarayan.Adi dravidar welfare minister Dr M Mathivendan, Rajya Sabha MP K R N Rajesh Kumar, Namakkal MP V S Matheswaran and MLA P Ramalingam were present at the memorial hall during the inaugural ceremony. Addressing the gathering, Mathivendan said the state govt was committed to honouring the living and deceased leaders to add pride to their work and convey their glory to the next generation. He said DMK govt had erected more than 60 statues and built 11 memorial halls across the state in the past five years. “Dr P Subbaraya memorial hall is unveiled to add pride to Namakkal district.” MP Rajesh Kumar said a memorial hall for Subbaraya in his native district was a long-standing demand. “It has been fulfilled during the tenure of our CM,” he said and added that the Namakkal MLA had provided Rs40 lakh from the constituency development fund for the construction of the hall. The event saw Mathivendan honouring Mohan Kumaramangalam, a successor of Dr P Subbarayan, by presenting him with a shawl.
