Vadodara: State-run Sir Sayajirao General (SSG) Hospital has launched a dedicated pain clinic to provide specialised care for patients suffering from acute and chronic pain, with an emphasis on minimally invasive procedures and non-surgical treatment options. The clinic was inaugurated on Friday to mark World Anaesthesia Day. It will offer individualised treatment for a range of conditions, including back and neck pain, sciatica, slipped disc, neuropathic pain, arthritis, shoulder and knee pain, trigeminal neuralgia and persistent post-operative pain.Depending on the patient’s condition, treatment options will include nerve blocks, facet joint injections, targeted injections and image-guided interventional pain management procedures. The initiative aims to improve mobility and quality of life while avoiding unnecessary surgical intervention. The facility has been established by the hospital’s department of anaesthesiology with the support of dean Dr Dhariti Parmar and under the guidance of medical superintendent Dr Ranjan Aiyer. Dr Kavita Lalchandani, Dr Neha Shah and Dr Akanksha Bansal played key roles in setting up the clinic. The initiative seeks to expand the role of anaesthesiology beyond the operating theatre by addressing pain that interferes with patients’ daily activities, sleep, mobility and independence. Guided by the motto ‘pain relief without surgery,‘ the clinic will focus on providing appropriate non-surgical interventions tailored to individual patient needs.
