Prayagraj: The neurosurgery department of Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital has achieved a significant milestone by successfully performing its first spinal surgery using the unilateral biportal endoscopy technique. The advanced minimally invasive procedure was used to treat a patient suffering from lumbar PIVD (slip disc) and spinal canal stenosis. The technique involves making very small incisions and using an endoscope to perform the surgery. The minimally invasive approach reduces muscle damage and is associated with less postoperative pain, reduced blood loss, lower risk of infection and faster recovery.According to media in charge SRNH, Dr Santosh Singh, the patient’s condition remained satisfactory after the procedure. The introduction of the technique is expected to benefit patients from Prayagraj and the wider Purvanchal region, who will now have access to advanced, minimally invasive spinal procedures closer to home, without having to travel to major metropolitan cities for such specialised treatment.
