Mandya: The historic Srirangapatna Dasara will focus on local artistes, town beautification, and lighting heritage sites, while preparations are underway for the six-day Cauvery Aarti at KRS.At a preparatory meeting with representatives of pro-Kannada organisations and progressive groups in Srirangapatna on Thursday, MLA Ramesh Bandisiddegowda directed officials to make elaborate arrangements and ensure the festival reflects Srirangapatna’s cultural and historical significance. Bandisiddegowda said local artistes would be given priority in cultural programmes.Actor Ravichandran would organise and inaugurate a two-day Yuva Sambhrama. Cultural programmes would be held after 6pm every day, giving local performers a platform. The celebrations would also include a poets’ meet. The MLA directed officials to illuminate important historical monuments, Muzrai temples and tourist spots, including Ganjam.Welcome arches would be installed at major entry points, and existing signboards would be repaired. The archaeology department would be consulted on maintenance of heritage structures, including fort gates, without compromising preservation norms.Heritage and food stalls showcasing local handicrafts, traditional products and cuisine would be set up to promote the region’s cultural identity. A major attraction will be the six-day Cauvery Aarti at KRS from Oct 11, celebrating the river’s cultural significance and raising awareness about its conservation.Chief minister DK Shivakumar and other dignitaries are expected to attend. Deputy commissioner Kumara and other officials discussed infrastructure, sanitation, lighting and security arrangements. Bus services from every gram panchayat will be provided to facilitate public participation.
