Mandya: Srirangapatna Dasara should be celebrated in an innovative, meaningful and people-centric manner by involving all sections of society and providing opportunities for local talent, Srirangapatna MLA Ramesh Bandisiddegowda said on Monday.Addressing a preliminary meeting on the Dasara celebrations at the DC’s office, he said the festival should go beyond traditional ceremonial events and evolve into a vibrant people’s festival. Programmes should offer visitors a unique experience while showcasing the historical and cultural significance of Srirangapatna, he added.Bandisiddegowda, who is also chairman of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC), directed organisers to give priority to local artists in cultural programmes. Talented artistes from Srirangapatna taluk and the district should be identified and provided platforms to showcase their abilities, he said.He also stressed the need to organise Sports Dasara with greater focus on traditional and rural sports to encourage participation by youth and help identify rural sporting talent.The MLA proposed organising a three-day Yuva Sambhrama ahead of Dasara on the lines of Mysuru’s event, providing local youth an opportunity to showcase their artistic and creative talents.Deputy commissioner Kumara said 12 committees had been constituted for the smooth conduct of the celebrations.
