Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) vice-chancellor (VC) Suresh Gosavi made a surprise visit to the refectory on Wednesday to inspect the quality of food served to students and check hygiene standards at the dining facility. VC also had a meal at the refectory to personally assess the quality of the food.A statement issued by SPPU stated that VC was accompanied by senate member Prasenjit Fadnavis, registrar Prafulla Pawar, dean Prabhakar Desai and other university officials.During the visit, VC inspected the kitchen, cooking equipment, storage of raw materials and overall cleanliness of the facility. Officials were asked to ensure that foodgrain and other ingredients were of good quality and stored safely and hygienically. Gosavi also interacted with students dining at the refectory and sought their feedback on the quality of food, menu and other facilities provided to them.The university said in the statement that the feedback would be considered while improving the dining facilities. VC directed the refectory management to take all necessary measures to maintain food quality and hygiene, keeping students’ health in mind.
