Gurgaon: Haryana School Education Board has cleared the path for assured career progression (ACP) benefits for 2,636 govt teachers who were earlier denied promotions due to inadequate marks in their Class 12 examinations. The breakthrough follows the declaration of results of a special marks improvement exam conducted this year, aimed at helping such teachers meet eligibility criteria. The exam recorded an exceptional pass rate of 99.96%, with candidates from govt schools achieving a full 100% success rate, as nearly all of the 1,988 candidates who appeared between 1988 and 2024 cleared the test, many with improved scores. The issue impacted many teachers, especially those who completed schooling years or decades ago under stricter grading systems. Many of them fell short of the 50% aggregate marks required for ACP eligibility, leading to stalled promotions despite years of service.Teacher groups repeatedly raised the matter, urging authorities to introduce a fair mechanism to address the anomaly. In response, the board introduced a one-time special improvement exam to give these candidates a second chance. Officials called it a fair step to ensure equity without lowering academic standards. The move is expected to help thousands of teachers across the state who were previously denied promotions due to technical eligibility rules linked to their Class 12 marks.“The board provided a special opportunity to candidates from 1988 to 2024 to improve their Class 12 scores. All of them have now passed and the overall results have improved. Many among them are in service and have now enhanced their marks,” said BSEH chairman Dr Pawan Kumar.Teacher associations have welcomed the decision, calling it a long-pending reform that will unlock career growth and boost morale among educators.
