Bengaluru: Following two major accidents on the outskirts of the city that claimed the lives of 12 youths, city police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh warned parents and vehicle owners of strict action if they give their vehicles to their minor children or youths who do not have a driving licence.Singh said police would conduct a special drive against minors driving or riding four-wheelers or two-wheelers. The police registered 620 cases for minors riding vehicles in the last three years, around 1,420 cases of wheeling, and 349 cases against parents or vehicle owners.Speaking to the press, Singh said two serious cases, one in Hosakote and another in Madanayakanahalli, took place recently, and most of the deceased were minors. Police have started a special drive to keep a check on the violations. “Traffic police strategised the drive. If we find anyone riding or driving without a DL, cases will be booked against the underage person and the parents or vehicle owners.”Joint commissioner of police (traffic), Karthik Reddy, said once a case is booked under the Indian Motor Vehicle Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the vehicles will be seized and the parents or vehicle owners will be produced before the court. “We booked wheeling cases in the past, and those involved in the previous cases are being monitored. We request parents to keep watch on their children’s activities and do not allow them to ride or drive.
