CHENNAI: Pitching for a stronger representation from southern states at the Centre, Tamil Nadu public works department (PWD) minister Aadhav Arjuna on Wednesday wondered why the south cannot come together to produce a prime minister if five or six northern states can collectively shape the nation’s leadership. He further advocated for an able leader from Tamil Nadu to emerge as the prime minister in the future.Speaking on the govt’s anti-delimitation resolution, the minister argued that the concentration of power needed a shift. “Five to six northern states come together and make someone the prime minister. This must change. Power and authority should not be limited to Bihar, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh alone,” Arjuna said.“A prime minister should emerge from south India – even from Tamil Nadu. Just as our voice echoes here in the assembly, it must echo in Parliament. That is why this resolution has been moved,” he added.His remarks were greeted with thumping of desks by the treasury benches.
