Sopore, Oct 22: The authorities have ordered the temporary closure of one lane of the Sopore Bypass Bridge for 10 days, from October 22 to October 31, 2026, to facilitate necessary repair work.
According to an official order issued by the District Magistrate, Baramulla, permission has been granted for the temporary closure of one lane of the bridge at kilometre 1.954 on the Sopore Bypass Road.
The order follows a request from the Officer Commanding, EE (Civil), 56 RCC (GREF), seeking permission to carry out the required repairs.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sopore, and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Sopore, have been directed to formulate an appropriate traffic management plan in consultation with the concerned departments and stakeholders. The plan aims to ensure smooth vehicular movement and minimise inconvenience to commuters during the repair period.
The authorities have also been directed to consult members of the Fruit Growers Association, Sopore, in view of the town’s importance as a major fruit trading centre and the ongoing apple season.
Sopore Fruit Mandi witnesses substantial movement of trucks and other vehicles transporting fresh produce to various markets across the country. Any disruption in the movement of fruit-laden vehicles during the peak trading season could pose logistical challenges for fruit growers, transporters and traders.
The proposed traffic management plan is expected to take into account the requirements of local residents, daily commuters, commercial vehicles and apple transporters to ensure orderly traffic movement while the repair work is underway.
Commuters and transporters have been advised to follow official traffic advisories, adhere to the directions of traffic personnel and cooperate with the authorities during the repair period.
The repair work is intended to address the bridge’s maintenance requirements. Both lanes are expected to reopen after the completion of the necessary repairs.
