NEW DELHI: A day after the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) “Sansad Chalo” march ended in clashes with police, the party on Tuesday accused the Delhi Police of using excessive force against protesters.The party also alleged that volunteers were beaten, dragged on roads and seriously injured during the crackdown.CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka alleged that only the police resorted to violence during Monday’s protest march.He said, “It was just the police who used lathis. Our youths were beaten up, their heads cracked open, they were dragged on streets. Sonam sir’s wife Gitanjali ma’am’s hair was pulled in order to drag her out of the truck. Ribs of one of our volunteers were shattered. ”“We had never expected or seen such brutality. Delhi Police crossed all limits yesterday. More number of people will come to Delhi. We will not move from here until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns,” he added.Ranka also claimed that the government’s outreach to the protesters had yielded no results despite discussions held on Monday.“We did not receive any response. Five hours were wasted. If the government wants to talk to us, they will now have to come here,” he said.
Delhi Police files FIR
Meanwhile, Delhi Police said it has registered an FIR at Connaught Place police station in connection with the violence and alleged vandalism during Monday’s protest.According to the police, the case has been registered against unidentified persons over incidents of violence and damage to vehicles during the march.The “Sansad Chalo” protest was organised by the CJP over alleged examination irregularities, with protesters attempting to march towards Parliament before being stopped by security personnel amid heavy deployment in the New Delhi district.
