Shillong: Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, surrendered before the state authorities on Tuesday following a Supreme Court order cancelling her bail and directing her to return to custody.A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale had given Sonam three weeks to surrender, observing that she did not appear entitled to bail at this stage of the case. The court noted that Sonam was aware of the grounds of her arrest when she was taken into custody and held that alleged typographical errors in the arrest documents could not form the basis for granting bail.Observing that the trial was at a crucial stage, the court said Sonam could seek a fresh bail in accordance with the law, if the proceedings were not concluded within six months.Sonam is accused of murdering her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya.Raja’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision and said he had trusted the judicial process from the outset. “I had full faith in justice,” Vipin said, thanking the Meghalaya govt, the courts and the investigating agencies for their efforts.
