New Delhi: Fugitive Sombir Motta was brought back to India from the US on Tuesday, almost a year after an Interpol Red Notice was issued against him.Motta, who is wanted by Haryana Police for serious offences including murder and illegal use of firearms, was deported to India following a high-level coordination by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Interpol, sources said. He was deported after an extensive tracking operation. Upon his arrival, Haryana Police began the process of taking over his custody to proceed with a criminal trial.The breakthrough in the case began when CBI, acting on a request from Haryana Police, secured the Interpol Red Notice against Motta on Feb 11, 2025. This international alert served as a global trigger for law enforcement agencies to track and locate the fugitive. A senior CBI officer said, “The successful deportation was the result of close collaboration between CBI, the ministry of external affairs, the ministry of home affairs and NCB Washington. By leveraging Interpol channels, we were able to pinpoint Motta’s location in the US and facilitate his return to face justice.”
