Ahmedabad: The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the city police on Sunday arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly carrying a country-made firearm and a live cartridge on a public road near Vasna. A team from SOG was on patrol when it received specific information that a man wearing a black jacket and dark trousers, was roaming near Vishala Circle with an illegal weapon. The patrol team rushed to the spot and, after identifying the suspect, cordoned off the area. The accused was identified as Faridkhan Pathan, a resident of Fatehwadi.During a search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, police recovered a country-made pistol from his trouser pocket and a live cartridge. The accused failed to produce any licence or permit for the weapon. The firearm, valued at Rs 25,000, and the cartridge, worth Rs 150, were seized and sealed as evidence. Pathan told police that he purchased the weapon over a year ago in Ajmer for Rs 25,000 out of personal interest in firearms. A case has been registered.
