Jaipur: Rajasthan police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested two men Friday for allegedly using forged qualifications to register themselves as doctors with the Rajasthan Medical Council (RMC), including a Class 8 dropout who went from working as a hospital clerk to owning a 100-bed hospital in Jalore, where he performed surgeries, investigators said.

ADG (SOG) Vishal Bansal said key accused Nananjiram Chaudhary, who runs Bhaskar Hospital in Jalore district’s Raniwara, submitted multiple forged documents to get registered as a doctor, including Class 10 and 12 marksheets, an MBBS degree attributed to Rama University in Kanpur and a diploma in Gynaecology and Obstetrics (DGO) purportedly issued by College of Physicians and Surgeons in Mumbai. The Mumbai institution has since confirmed that Chaudhary’s DGO certificate, allotment letter and pass certificate were all forged, said Bansal.

IG (SOG) Ajay Pal Lamba said Chaudhary initially worked at a private clinic’s outpatient counter around 2010, issuing entry slips to patients. He later joined Rajdev Hospital in Raniwara, bought it in 2015 and renamed it Bhaskar Hospital in 2016.The hospital initially employed a general medicine doctor, with Chaudhary going on to hire a staff gynaecologist in 2019, Lamba added.Investigators said he used to handle all registration work for doctors employed at his hospital and regularly visited the RMC office in this regard. He used the contacts he developed with council officials and employees over time to secure his own registration with forged documents, they added.SOG officials said the second accused, Pankaj Yadav (30) from Kaliwas village in Sikar district, forged an MBBS degree after repeatedly failing the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination, which medical graduates trained abroad must pass to practise in India.Yadav studied medicine in Kazakhstan from 2013 to 2018 and attempted the FMGE around six times over the following years without success, ADG Bansal said.He is accused of submitting a forged degree and marksheets attributed to Sri Krishna Medical College in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, along with a fake Bihar Medical Council registration certificate. Both documents were found to be forged during a police verification, SOG officials said.Yadav was arrested from Kaithal in Haryana, where he had allegedly been holed up in an attempt to evade arrest. The case of the two fake doctors began with a complaint filed by RMC registrar Giridhar Gopal at Jaipur’s Ashok Nagar police station on Oct 6, 2024, which alleged that multiple persons had secured council registration using forged documents. The original complaint named eight people – Shantanu Kumar Charan, Deepak Chaudhary, Devendra Nehra, Geeta Kumari, Pankaj Yadav, Mahesh Kumar Gurjar, Sarimul Mazumdar and Ram Kishore Mahawar. The council later entered a ninth name in a follow-up complaint, that of Nananjiram Chaudhary, with SOG eventually taking over the investigation into the case from Jaipur police. The agency is currently trying to identify who prepared or supplied the forged qualifications submitted by the two accused.
