Sobhita Dhulipala recently opened up about her experience growing up in the Telugu states while reacting to an Instagram post discussing whether people from the Telugu community support those who choose unconventional paths. The ‘Made in Heaven’ actress recalled packing her bags and moving to Mumbai when she was just 16, saying she felt the environment around her was resistant to people who wanted to take risks and pursue different dreams.

Instagram content creator Ahalya from Hyderabad recently shared a video discussing the perceived lack of support people can sometimes receive from their own community when they attempt something new.In the video, she questioned why people can be critical of those from their own community who venture into unfamiliar territory. She spoke about how Telugu people often take pride in their cinema, culture and community, but suggested that the same level of support may not always extend to someone starting a business, opening a restaurant or choosing an unconventional career path.

Sobhita reacted to the post with a ‘100’ emoji before sharing her own experience of leaving home for Mumbai at the age of 16.The ‘Monkey Man’ actress said she felt that the environment around her was not particularly welcoming towards people who wanted to take risks or enter fields where they were considered outsiders.
She wrote, “I packed my bags and left for Mumbai at age 16, with no guarantee of making it but I took my chance cus it was clear to me that the environment here felt deeply resistant and judgemental of anyone who dares to dream, especially if you’re an outsider to whichever field you want to enter. Double dose if you’re a woman.”Sobhita also expressed hope that things have changed over the years.“Well, this was a while ago, and I do hope things are different now. Here’s wishing everyone in our community can grow wings (and a spine),” she added.
Sobhita Dhulipala’s acting journey
Sobhita was born in Tenali, Andhra Pradesh, and moved to Mumbai at the age of 16. She went on to study corporate law before representing India at Miss Earth 2013.She made her acting debut with Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ in 2016, which also starred Vicky Kaushal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. She subsequently gained wider recognition with projects including ‘Made in Heaven’ and ‘The Night Manager’.She was last seen in the crime thriller ‘Cheekatilo’, which premiered on OTT.In December 2024, Sobhita married Telugu actor Naga Chaitanya in an intimate ceremony in Hyderabad.
