Kurukshetra: Kurukshetra police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested the snatching accused who escaped from police custody at the LNJP Civil Hospital here on Sept 5.He was brought to the hospital from district jail following an alleged suicide bid.Accused Satinder Singh alias Kanti, a resident of Mandokhra village in Kurukshetra district, was arrested by a CIA-I team on Tuesday under the supervision of SP Chandra Mohan, police said.According to PSI Rahul, the CIA-I team was patrolling the Shahabad area on Sept 1 when it received information that some people had caught a youth allegedly involved in snatching gold earrings from a woman in Ishargarh village. The police reached the spot and arrested Satinder Singh. A motorcycle and two gold earrings were also seized from his possession.On the complaint of Sukhrampal, a resident of Ishargarh, a case was registered at Thanesar Sadar police station, and Satinder was arrested. He was subsequently produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.Police said that on the night of Sept 4, Satinder was admitted to LNJP Civil Hospital from the district jail. Around 6 am the following morning, he escaped from the hospital on the pretext of going to the bathroom. A separate case was registered against him at Kurukshetra University police station, and police launched a hunt to apprehend him.On Tuesday, a CIA-I team led by inspector Prateek and comprising PSI Rahul, ASI Krishan Kumar, Girvar Sharma and head constable Rajesh Kumar arrested Satinder. He was subsequently produced before a court.Escape to PunjabPSI Rahul said during interrogation, Satinder disclosed that after escaping from the hospital, he reached Kurukshetra railway station and took a train to Ambala, from where he boarded another train to Punjab.He allegedly stayed at a park near Ludhiana railway station, sleeping there at night and moving around the area during the day. Police said he was addicted to drugs and stole a mobile phone, selling it to buy “chitta (heroin)” before returning to the park.After spending two or three days in Ludhiana and Khanna, Satinder allegedly stole a motorcycle and rode it to Ambala. He was reportedly preparing to return to his village when police arrested him near Ishargarh.Criminal pastPSI Rahul said Satinder already had eight criminal cases registered against him in Kurukshetra, Karnal and Ambala districts. The cases are related to motorcycle theft and snatching.
