Balasore: A watchman, after being bitten by a venomous snake, caught the reptile and carried it in a polythene bag while cycling to the hospital for treatment in Udala town in Mayurbhanj district on Friday evening.Identified as Mochiram Tudu (37), the Bahalda resident works as a watchman in the assistant lift irrigation project engineer’s office in ward no. 10 of Udala.Sources said Mochiram was on duty around 8 pm on Friday, when a snake suddenly bit him on the leg. Realising the seriousness of the situation, Mochiram caught the reptile and put it into a polythene bag and headed straight to Udala Sub-Divisional Hospital. There, doctors examined the reptile and identified it as a venomous common krait (chiti). Mochiram was immediately administered treatment accordingly.However, his condition reportedly deteriorated later in the night. He was referred to PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada for advanced treatment.
