Margao: Commuters at the Curchorem-Sanvordem railway station continue to face unsafe and inconvenient conditions years after redevelopment work began, with construction debris littering the main platform, limited canopy along the second platform, and an unbarricaded mound of excavated earth outside the station posing a hazard to motorists.The station is among 51 South Western Railway (SWR) stations selected for redevelopment under Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. However, despite the project being launched with much fanfare, work has progressed slowly, leaving passengers to endure years of inconvenience with no indication of when it will be completed.Passengers said they are forced to navigate construction material and debris on the main platform, while those waiting on the second platform remain exposed to rain and sun as most of its length lacks shelter.“They demolished the old structure saying it would be redeveloped quickly, but it has been years and the platforms are still in this state. Senior citizens and women travelling alone find it particularly difficult to negotiate the debris, especially in the rains,” said a regular commuter.Outside the station, a large mound of earth excavated during the redevelopment has remained along the adjoining road for several months without adequate barricading or reflective signage, creating a serious risk for motorists.Repeated calls and text messages to SWR spokespersons went unanswered.The Rs 16-crore redevelopment project includes a new foot overbridge, lifts, escalators, platform shelters and an upgraded station building.
