T’puram: A retired revenue official from Kottarakkara, G Radhakrishnan Potti, 67, gave a new lease of life to six people through organ donation following his death at a private hospital here.Potti was declared brain dead on Friday after suffering a brain haemorrhage. His wife, Lathika Devi Antharjanam, and daughter R Sreelakshmi came forward to donate his organs despite their grief.His two kidneys, liver, skin and two corneas were donated. One kidney was transported by ambulance from the hospital to Govt Medical College Hospital, Kottayam, through a green corridor coordinated by the police. The ambulance reached Kottayam MCH at 2.40pm.One kidney and the liver were allocated to patients at the private hospital, while the second kidney was given to a patient at Govt Medical College, Kottayam. The skin was donated to a patient at Govt Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, while the cornea was allocated to a patient at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO), Thiruvananthapuram.Potti, who retired from Kollam Collectorate, was admitted to the private hospital on Monday after developing health complications.The organ donation was coordinated by the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation. Health minister K Muraleedharan expressed his appreciation to the family for agreeing to donate the organs despite their bereavement and conveyed his condolences to them.
