Patna: Two more accused were shot and injured in separate police encounters in Sitamarhi and Samastipur districts during the past 24 hours, taking the number of such incidents in Bihar to 21 in the 56 days since Samrat Choudhary became chief minister on April 22. The latest encounters came amid continuing scrutiny over the June 17 death of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari in Bhojpur, which has been alleged to be a fake encounter.In Sitamarhi, police shot and injured Fekan Kumar, accused of looting Rs 1.5 lakh from a customer service point (CSP) operator on July 1. Four other accused were also arrested.Sitamarhi superintendent of police Amit Ranjan said an FIR was registered after the robbery and a special team was formed under the SDPO.“Acting on technical inputs, CCTV footage, and a tip-off, police raided Riga area around 11pm on Thursday. The gang was cornered, but one accused tried to flee on a motorcycle and opened fire on the police team. Police fired in self-defence, injuring Fekan in the leg. He has been admitted to sadar hospital for treatment under police custody,” Amit said.Police arrested four others and seized two country-made pistols, one country-made gun, two cartridges and a motorcycle allegedly looted from the Parsauni police station area. Amit said Fekan had several criminal cases, including loot and dacoity, registered against him.In a separate operation near Baligaon on the Samastipur-Vaishali border, a joint team of Samastipur police and the Bihar Special Task Force (STF) arrested Aman Kumar Sahni after he was shot in the leg during an alleged exchange of fire.Police said Aman and his associates were planning a crime when the team reached the spot. His associate was also arrested after being injured while trying to flee.According to a statement issued by the STF, “Aman is a professional criminal and resident of Chakmahesi police station area. He was recently released from jail and was planning another crime. His associate Lakshmi is from Musahri, Muzaffarpur district.”
