Jalandhar: After the Punjab Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating the Behbal Kalan police firing case, summoned Vijay Sampla again to appear on June 28, the former Union minister stated that he remained fully committed to cooperating, but repeatedly issuing summons without providing any documentary basis was not only unjustified but also contrary to the principles of natural justice.Sampla said that he already appeared before the SIT on Tuesday, and during the proceedings, he specifically requested the investigating officers to provide him with a copy of the document, communication or record on the basis of which he was summoned for questioning. He further requested that if any original document formed the basis of the investigation, it should be provided to him and bear his signature so that he could respond based on facts and official records.Sampla pointed out that the SIT had not provided him with any such document so far. Despite this, he was once again summoned to appear before the SIT on June 28. He stated that making any statement without examining the relevant documents could lead to misinterpretation of facts and create unnecessary controversy. The former minister alleged that the AAP govt in Punjab was attempting to divert public attention from its administrative failures, deteriorating law-and-order situation, and accountability in serious matters such as the Behbal Kalan firing case by unnecessarily bringing political opponents under the ambit of investigation.MSID:: 131971379 413 |
