Lucknow: The Special Investigation Team probing the devastating Aliganj fire that claimed 15 lives intensified its investigation on Friday — the fourth day of investigation. The two-member team scrutinised official records and has so far questioned 110 people to reconstruct the sequence of events and fix accountability. The team comprising ACS tourism and culture Amrit Abhijat and ADG Lucknow zone Praveen Kumar examined the gutted building’s layout, entry and exit points, electrical wiring, access routes, structural alterations and compliance with fire safety norms to determine whether violations contributed to the tragedy.Sources said the SIT analysed sanctioned building maps, electricity connection records, approved electrical load, fire safety documents and permissions issued by various govt departments. Investigators are examining whether unauthorised construction, regulatory lapses or deviations from approved plans aggravated the fire and hampered evacuation.According to sources, nearly 110 people, including survivors, eyewitnesses, residents, building occupants, officials from civic agencies and other stakeholders, have been questioned so far.The SIT has also sought reports from the Forensic Science Laboratory on burnt electrical wiring, damaged equipment and debris to establish the exact origin and spread of the fire. Officials said the probe is independently corroborating evidence from multiple sources and will examine accountability across departments responsible for building approvals, electricity connections and fire safety compliance before submitting its report.
