New Delhi: Election Commission of India has again revised the schedule for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Delhi. The draft electoral roll will now be published on Aug 31, a week after the earlier schedule of Aug 24. After the third extension of the SIR schedule in the city, the final roll will come out on Nov 4, instead of Oct 27.An official said the extension was necessary as officials needed more time for the rationalisation and rearrangement of the city’s around 13,000 polling stations. The poll panel has, however, not extended the window for submitting enumeration forms, which ended on Aug 17.Over 47 lakhs of Delhi’s 1.5 crore registered voters have not been verified during the month-and-a-half-long exercise, which began on June 30. Officials said frequent shifting of the voters from their registered addresses was one of the main causes behind the gap. The draft electoral roll will include the names of all registered voters whose credentials have been verified. The period for filing claims and objections has been shifted from Aug 24-Sept 23 to Aug 31-Sept 30. The notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will be carried out from Aug 31 to Oct 29, instead of Aug 24 to Oct 22.The rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations, which was earlier scheduled to be completed by Aug 17, will be on till Aug 24. It is being done for balanced voter distribution across all booths to ensure proper organisation and easier access for voters.
