Bengaluru: Voters going through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls have until Sept 23 to file claims and objections, but the process does not end on that date. Notices can be issued until Oct 12 and hearings can continue until Oct 22, giving voters who receive notices later more time to respond.The Sept 23 deadline applies to specific applications. Those seeking inclusion in the electoral roll must file Form 6, while non-resident Indians can use Form 6A. Form 7 is meant for seeking deletion of a voter and Form 8 for corrections to existing electoral details.A voter who receives a notice but also needs to correct details can submit Form 8. “The Form 8 application for making changes in the details on the electoral roll during SIR will be processed post hearing,” a technical expert from the chief electoral officer’s office said.There is no verification requirement for Form 7 and Form 8 applications. Those submitting Form 6 may, however, be contacted by the electoral registration officer (ERO) for verification. “There may be a call from the ERO to verify those who fill Form 6. Those verifications have not started so far,” an official said.For Form 6 applicants, the booth-level officer (BLO) will visit them for verification. If ERO-level verification is required, the applicant will be informed through a message on their mobile number. “The BLO visits the applicants for verification. However, if there is a need to verify their details through the ERO, they will receive a message on their mobile number,” an expert said.Officials said voters can approach their BLO for local-level assistance and queries related to the SIR process.QUOTEI have directed officials to ensure that eligible voters, who have moved to other places for work or other reasons, are not excluded from the electoral rolls during the SIR process. With mapping of 43.8 lakh voters still incomplete, officials must ensure that no eligible voter is left out. Special attention should be given to Form 6 and there should be no delay in issuing Permanent Resident Certificates.
