Chandigarh: The municipal corporation has received a lone bid for the operation and maintenance of the 300-tonne-per-day wet waste processing plant at the Dadumajra dumping site following the expiry of the previous contract.MC officials are currently scrutinising the bid and undertaking document verification before deciding whether to accept the offer or invite fresh tenders. Sources said while single bids are generally not considered in the first instance, provisions exist for exceptions in special cases.The project is estimated at around Rs 5 crore and the new contract is proposed for a five-year period. The selected agency will be responsible for processing wet waste generated in the city under the prescribed terms and conditions, with its work monitored by MC engineering officials and the Chandigarh pollution control committee.Sources said if the bid is not accepted, the civic body will have to initiate a fresh tender process to appoint a new agency for the facility.According to MC records, Chandigarh generates around 450-500 metric tonnes of municipal waste daily, of which nearly 200-250 MT comprises wet waste. The entire wet waste collected from different parts of the city is transported to the Dadumajra plant for processing.
