At Jaipur Durga Bari, women performed Sindoor Khela, applying vermilion to the goddess before smearing it on one another as a symbol of faith, affection and the hope of a prosperous year ahead. The ritual brought a poignant touch to the farewell, even as the idol’s immersion was scheduled for Wednesday morning.

“Our Sindoor Khela and all other Dashami rituals took place Tuesday. We would immerse our idol on Wednesday morning,” said Sudipto Sen, president of Jaipur Durga Bari.At Vaishali Nagar Extension puja, near Dakhineshwar Kali Bari, the celebrations continued with Navami rituals, bhog distribution and evening cultural performances. Families gathered for prayers, food and music, making the final evening of the festivities a celebration of community and togetherness.“As usual, we organised our Navami rituals and distributed bhog to devotees Tuesday. In the evening, there was a series of cultural events. We enjoyed the last day of this grand celebration with much fanfare,” said Ashok Chatterjee, president of Jai Durga Welfare Trust.Several other Bengali associations, including Aadi Shakti Welfare Trust in Malviya Nagar, Probashi Bengali Cultural Society at Jai Club and Agrani Cultural Association at SDM Park near Moti Doongri Ganesh Temple, also observed Navami with rituals and cultural programmes. The difference in schedules reflected the associations’ adherence to specific lunar dates and ritual traditions, allowing the city’s celebrations to unfold across two days.“Since we are following the rituals according to tithis and dates, our Navami was Tuesday and Dashami is on Wednesday. There were cultural programmes on Tuesday,” said Manik Das Adhikary, president of Agrani Cultural Association.
