Mohali: Two siblings from Kharar were allegedly cheated of Rs 15.10 lakh after three men promised them govt jobs in the Army, Chandigarh municipal corporation, Punjab and Haryana high court and Ludhiana district court. An FIR was registered after a DSP inquiry reportedly found the allegations substantiated.Majri police have booked Gurpreet Singh Sidhu, Pritam Singh Sidhu and Pankaj Sharma under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is under way.The case stems from a complaint by Narinder Kaur of Manakpur Sharif village, who alleged that she and her brother, Gurkaran Singh, were lured with promises of govt jobs. The accused allegedly claimed to have links with senior officials and initially offered to arrange an Army clerk’s job for Rs 9 lakh.Police said the siblings made multiple payments in cash, through bank transfers and by cheque between July and Dec 2021. To gain their trust, the accused allegedly sent a fake Army appointment letter for a computer operator’s post.When the recruitment did not materialise, the accused allegedly shifted the offer to jobs in the MC, Punjab and Haryana high court and Ludhiana District Court, demanding more money. They also allegedly sent a forged joining letter purportedly issued by the Ludhiana court.In all, the complainants allegedly paid Rs 15.10 lakh, but neither received jobs nor got their money back. The accused later stopped communicating with them, police said.Following the DSP inquiry, Majri police registered an FIR and launched a detailed probe.
