Canacona: Shrishthal farmers are concerned about the ongoing discharge of molasses effluent into the Khalwadem rivulet from a broken tank in the Shrishthal industrial estate, despite repeated complaints.The pollution has contaminated the rivulet and nearby wells. Locals suspect a fresh sludge was released on Tuesday night.Farmer Amar Naik Gaonkar said both the sources of their irrigation have been polluted.Ramdas Bhagat, a farmer, said the Goa Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has asked the company to stop the pollution and remove the tank after complaints from farmers.Bhagat said the company failed to act promptly and began the work slowly. He said the panchayat and the Shrishtal biodiversity committee had also complained to the deputy collector to remove the damaged tank.The work also got delayed after a bull fell into the effluent on Tuesday. The fire services rescued the animal.
