NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Friday directed jail authorities to reschedule psychiatric consultations of Aaftab Amin Poonawala from Tuesdays to Saturdays to avoid a clash with the ongoing day-to-day trial in the 2022 Shraddha Walkar murder case.Additional Sessions Judge Hargurvarinder Singh Jaggi passed the order after Poonawala informed the court that he has been undergoing psychiatric treatment for anxiety and other related issues during his incarceration.The psychiatrist visits the prison on Tuesdays, coinciding with the ongoing court proceedings, news agency ANI reported.After hearing the submissions, the court directed the jail authorities to shift the consultations to Saturdays.“The Court finds it appropriate to direct the concerned jail superintendent and the In-charge of the prison dispensary/hospital to reschedule the consultation meeting of accused Aftab Amin Poonawala for Saturdays, as the trial is in progress and at the stage of the prosecution evidence, which is being listed day to day, since July 21, 2026 on Mondays to Fridays (both days inclusive),” ASJ Jaggi ordered on July 31.The trial court is currently recording prosecution evidence on a day-to-day basis, ANI reported.During the hearing, Poonawala reiterated that he has been receiving psychiatric treatment in prison for anxiety and related issues and requested that his consultations be shifted to Saturdays so they do not interfere with the trial schedule.On Friday, the court recorded the examination-in-chief and cross-examination of prosecution witnesses Prakash Saksena and sub-inspector Sandeep.The court also summoned two other prosecution witnesses, Sanuj and Abhishek Emmanuel, for cross-examination on August 3.The trial against Poonawala in the Shraddha Walkar murder case is continuing with daily recording of prosecution evidence.(With agency inputs)
