Shopian, Jun 28: District-level launch of the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) 2026 programme was inaugurated by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone at District Hospital Shopian on Sunday.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Chief Medical Officer Shopian, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, District Immunization Officer, Block Medical Officer and other health officials and frontline healthcare workers.
The programme commenced with the administration of the first oral polio vaccine (OPV) drops to a newborn baby.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADDC appreciated the dedicated efforts of healthcare workers and stressed the importance of achieving 100 percent vaccination coverage. He appealed to all parents to bring every child below five years of age to the nearest polio booth and ensure that no child is left unvaccinated.
The Health Department is trying its best for making Shopian a polio-free district through active community participation and coordinated efforts of all stakeholders.
The District Health Administration also expressed gratitude to healthcare workers, volunteers and the public for their continued support in making IPPI-2026 a successful public health initiative and called upon everyone to work collectively to safeguard the future of every child.
