Hazaribag: A suspected shooter linked to the notorious Prince Khan gang was injured and arrested following an exchange of fire with police during a special operation in Hazaribag district in the early hours of Thursday, while two of his associates escaped into a nearby forest. Police also recovered a country-made pistol and an empty cartridge from the site.The encounter took place near the 13 Mile transporting road under Barkagaon police station limits after police, acting on specific intelligence inputs, launched an operation to thwart a crime allegedly being planned by the gang.Hazaribag SP Aman Kumar said that the police received prior information that members of the criminal gang were preparing to execute a major criminal act. A special team led by Barkagaon SDPO Amit Anand and officer-in charge Deepak Kumar Singh was formed to conduct the operation.The suspects opened fire when the search team confronted them in the forest. Police retaliated, triggering a brief gun battle in which one of the accused, identified as Syed Mohammad Zeeshan (35), suffered a bullet injury to his leg. He was taken into custody and shifted to hospital under police escort. SP said raids are underway to trace the two accused.Kumar informed that Zeeshan, a resident of Hazaribag, had earlier worked as a driver in NTPC and Latehar areas. Investigators suspect his involvement in the recent firing on coal-laden Hyva trucks in the region, an incident for which gangster Prince Khan had allegedly claimed responsibility.
