Bathinda: Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested a station house officer (SHO) and a home guards employeel in Moga district in a corruption case.Inspector Sunita Bawa, SHO of Kot Ise Khan police station, and Punjab home guards employee Guravtar Singh were caught in an operation following a complaint by Rajwinder Singh, a resident of Noorpur Hakima village.According to vigilance officials, police registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act on Sept 22 and the duo allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from the complainant, threatening to implicate him. The amount was negotiated down to Rs 80,000, with Rajwinder Singh paying Rs 20,000 to Guravtar.Vigilance sleuths laid a trap late Saturday when Guravtar was caught accepting Rs 50,000. Upon receiving the cash, Guravtar phoned Bawa, who instructed him to bring the money to her office, vigilance officials said, adding they then arrested Bawa as she accepted the cash.Senior superintendent of police (Ferozepur Range) Jagatpreet Singh said both suspects were arrested in the presence of official witnesses. A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
