Actor Mukesh Khanna has taken a significant step in social welfare by starting ‘Shaniwar Bhoj’, a langar program in Kandivali, Mumbai

MUMBAI: Actor Mukesh Khanna, best known for his iconic role as Shaktimaan, has launched a weekly langar initiative in Mumbai’s Kandivali to provide meals to underprivileged people, with plans to feed around 100 to 150 people every Saturday for the next year.Khanna has started the initiative, called ‘Shaniwar Bhoj’, through the Mukesh Khanna Foundation. He said the programme could eventually be expanded to other days of the week as well.Speaking about the initiative, Khanna said feeding the hungry was deeply rooted in Indian culture and urged more people to come forward to help those in need.“This is an initiative that I believe some people in our country are already doing, but not enough people are doing it. The tradition of feeding the hungry and helping those in need is deeply rooted in our culture, our history, and our religion. I believe that if even four people start feeding those in need in this way, we can make a real difference in solving the problem of hunger in our country.”Khanna said the initiative would be held every Saturday and that he may also extend it to Tuesdays and Thursdays.“I have started this initiative called Shaniwar Bhoj through the Mukesh Khanna Foundation. Every weekend, every Shaniwar, I will be doing this for an entire year. Here, I have decided to feed 100 to 150 people every Shaniwar. And I don’t think I will stop at Saturdays. I may also come on Tuesdays, and it is possible that I will do it on Thursdays as well,” he added. The actor also appealed to others to join the effort and help expand the initiative. He said a board had been put up at the venue to spread awareness about the programme and encourage people to participate.“I am inviting people and motivating them to come forward and join this initiative. I have also put up a board here so that people can learn about it and get involved.”“So, this is a small beginning through the Mukesh Khanna Foundation, and this is my effort to make a difference,” he added.(With ANI inputs)
